5 Common Motorcycle Tire Bundle Packing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When exporting motorcycle tires, a small packing oversight can cost you thousands of dollars in lost container capacity. Here are the most common mistakes we see and how to avoid them.
Mistake #1: Ignoring Bundle Gaps
The biggest surprise for new exporters is bundle gaps — the empty space between each bundle of tires when packed in a container. A typical 20-piece TT bundle has about 5-7% gap.
TL (tubeless) bundles have larger gaps because individual tires are thicker and cannot be compressed as tightly.
Our loading plan calculator automatically accounts for these gaps based on your bundle size, tire type, and packaging method.
Mistake #2: Using Wrong Bundle Count
Not all motorcycle tire bundles have the same number of pieces per bundle:
- TT tires: Usually 10 or 20 pcs/bundle
- TL tubeless tires: Usually 10 pcs/bundle (sometimes 8 for large sizes)
Using the wrong bundle count in your estimate can shift your container fill by 20-30%.
Mistake #3: Mixing Tire Types Without Planning
Mixing different tire specs and bundle types without proper planning leads to wasted space. Our tool lets you calculate mixed loads accurately, accounting for each spec's unique packing dimensions.
Mistake #4: Underestimating Inner Tube Volume
Inner tubes take up significant space — especially when packed in cartons (vs. woven bags). A common mistake is calculating outer tire volume but forgetting to include tube capacity on the same page of your estimation.
Mistake #5: Not Double-Checking Weight vs. Volume Limits
Containers have both volume limits and weight limits. For motorcycle tires, volume is usually the constraint before weight (a 40HQ container can hold 68 cbm but only about 26 tons). Always check if your load would hit the weight ceiling before optimizing for volume.
The Solution: Use a Proper Calculator
Don't rely on manual calculations or Excel spreadsheets. Our loading plan tool handles all these variables automatically:
- ✓ Bundle gap calculations (20, 10, 5 pcs/bundle)
- ✓ TT vs TL tire type differences
- ✓ Inner tube by woven bag weight OR carton dimensions
- ✓ Mixed model loads
- ✓ 20GP and 40HQ capacity comparison
